How to use Guitar Free Play in The Last of Us Part II Remastered

To access the mode, simply head to extras in the menu. You don’t have to unlock the mode in any way. Once you’re in, you’ll find a surprising number of options to play around with. You can also adjust what effects are applied to your playing.

You can make things sound spacy with reverb or sound very clean and dry. It’s way more than I would have expected them to add. There are plenty of effects to tweak and try out, but you can always reset to default and start over.

Additionally, you can unlock new instruments, such as the banjo and resonator guitars. These can completely change the feeling of whatever music you are making. You can create entirely new soundscapes by playing around with the different effects and instruments. There are even three characters to choose from: Ellie, Joel, and Gustavo.

Who is Gustavo in The Last of Us Part II Remastered?

For those wondering who this third individual is, it’s no other than Gustavo Santaolalla. Santaolalla composed the score for both installments of The Last of Us, as well as the HBO adaptation. In addition to his work on the series, Santaolalla won back-to-back Academy Awards for his work on Brokeback Mountain and Babel.

Santaolalla actually appears briefly in the game proper. He’s present at the very beginning of the game as Ellie passes through Jackson. He is sitting in a rocking chair and playing the banjo. It’s a fun little Easter egg and a fitting role for a masterful guitarist and composer like Santaolalla.

The Last of Us II Remastered is available exclusively on the PS5.
