In addition to an extensive single-player campaign, My Time at Sandrock offers a separate multiplayer mode. The multiplayer experience works like a separate game. This means it does involve a bit of extra work to figure out how to start multiplayer in My Time at Sandrock.

My Time at Sandrock multiplayer mode takes place during an era of Sandrock’s prosperity. The player and their friends will build structures from before the events of the main campaign. You’ll join up with up to three other builders adventuring and completing commissions together. The focus on multiplayer is on the workshop and town quests, opting to forgo a significant storyline like the single-player campaign.

To start multiplayer in My Time at Sandrock, simply select the multiplayer option from the main menu. The game will relaunch in multiplayer mode. Once there, you have options on how you want to set up your multiplayer experience.

Firstly, you can join a town with an invite, such as one from a friend. Also, you can match with a town, which is essentially joining a pre-existing town with strangers. Finally, you can create your own town. You can then invite your friends to join you, or go through and complete things solo. (Although, the draw is of course working on projects together.) An important note, you can’t run around in more than one town . However, you can leave your current town for another, carrying some of your progress to the next.

I recommend starting the My Time at Sandrock campaign first. Go through its first few hours. Get a feel for things. After that, I highly suggest just launching it and hopping into a town to experience it. For your first time, heading to a town with friends if you have enough people you know also playing works, but playing with strangers works too. You can always join a fresh town or even make your own later if things don’t work out.

My Time at Sandrock will release November 2, 2023. It will be available in both physical and digital formats for the PS5, Switch, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
