How to Start a New Game in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a massive open-world fantasy RPG with tons to see and do. But sometimes people make mistakes when it comes to creating their character or accidentally destroying an entire town with the Dragonsplague. This is when knowing how to start a new game in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is crucial.

How do I start a new game in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

We already know Capcom is hard at work on an upcoming patch that will let players smoothly start a new game, even with an existing save file. This isn’t out at the time of writing this on all three platforms, but when it becomes available, it will be like the original game in how players just pick the “New Game” option in the main menu. They will likely lose their existing save, but it will allow players to restart the title from scratch.

In the meantime, there is a workaround to start a new game on all three platforms. All three involve the same idea of going offline or turning off cloud saves for the game and then deleting your existing save file. From there, you will be able to restart your console or PC, boot up the game, and starting playing with a brand new game.

  • PS5: Go to your settings to Saved Data. Turn off syncing saved data and then delete the saves under this game.
  • Xbox: Head to the Network Settings and choose to go offline. Go to the game and then choose to “manage game data and add-ons.” Delete all of your save data under the title.
  • Steam: Right-click on Dragon’s Dogma 2 to go to Properties. Turn off the option for cloud saves here and then open up the game’s folder on your computer. Navigate to the saves folder and delete everything there, but only there.

How does new game plus work?

The other, more challenging way to start a new game in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is to beat the main story from start to finish. Once you do this, you’ll have the option to keep playing on your existing save or start over with New Game Plus. You get to keep your level and most of your items, but you lose stuff like quest progress and can never access your old save again, so choose wisely for this option.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is available right now for the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
