Ova Magica may be a farming game that encompasses many Pokemon-themed elements within its gameplay, but it also retains a lot of farming aspects, including a fan-favourite from the genre, romancing the residents. There are thirteen characters you can potentially befriend and romance in Ova Magica, all with various personalities and distinctive traits. Before delving into this guide, it’s worth noting that Ova Magica is in early access, and there is a glass ceiling on how far you can take the romances with the characters at this stage.
Who are the characters you can romance
As mentioned above, there are thirteen characters you can befriend: Jade, Ruby, Flint, Emerald, Charoi, Lapis, Lazuli, Opal, Carnelian, Citrine, Saphir, Garnet and Jasper. All of the characters have their own unique traits and personalities. Jasper is a reckless skater, whereas Garnet likes fishing and fantasizes about going to the next party. All thirteen of these characters can be potential love prospects, regardless of what gender you pick.
However, not all thirteen characters will be available when you first reach Clover Town. At the beginning of day two, you will get a request from the mayor, who will ask you to visit him in his office near the town square. You will want to do this task as soon as possible, as the mayor will then ask you to introduce yourself to the locals, which is when all the characters appear on the map.
How to romance the love interests
Getting closer to characters in Ova Magica will require you to earn points on a heart scale system. When you have earned 15 points for a specific character, and the heart is full, an event will become available surrounding that character. These events can range from building a boutique to meeting a character late at night to investigate the strange sounds from the forest. After the event has concluded, your relationship with them will level up, and you will receive a skill point. The heart scale will revert back to zero, and you will have to earn another 15 points to instigate the next event.
To schmooze these characters and earn the elusive points will require you to interact with them one-on-one. The easiest way is to approach the character in question and talk to them, earning one point towards the scale. Sometimes, the conversation that transpires allows you to earn extra points with multiple-choice answers. You can do this with all thirteen characters each day. If you are unsure where someone is, open the map, and it will show you their location.
Another great way of earning points is by challenging them to a blob battle, which you can do once a day. However, the character’s blob level will increase each time you battle, which you should be mindful of.
On days when the festival runs, you will not be able to approach people stereotypically, but if you attend the event itself, not only will it provide an opportunity to talk to the characters, but you may be able to earn additional points by talking to them more than once, or impressing them at the event. After your bond with someone reaches level 1, you can take them to the blob world. Every time you take a character with you, it will give you points towards their heart scale. To enter the blob world, you must join the Adventures Club.
