The Regalia Sword is an unequippable, ceremonial weapon in Dragon’s Dogma 2, and restoring it to its former glory will require finishing two quests and venturing to 3 different areas of the world. This guide will explain how to reforge the Regalia Sword in Dragon’s Dogma 2.
How to complete Dulled Steel, Cold Forge in Dragon’s Dogma 2
The first quest in this 2-part chain is called “Dulled Steel, Cold Forge” and can be picked up by talking to a guard named Roman in Vermund Castle. The quest becomes available around the time Captain Brant sends you off to Battahl after visiting the coronation. Roman will likely flag you down on the castle steps before leading you to the gardens for a clandestine chat.
He’ll explain that he guards the ceremonial blade of the Sovran but that it has been neglected for a long time and needs a touch-up, and doing so would help your claim to the throne of Vermund. So, he has stolen the blade himself and given it to you to restore.
The first step is to find a blacksmith with the skills to reforge the blade, and for that, you’re going to need to journey to the city of Bakbattahl, as Brant suggested, either by foot or by oxcart. If you’ve picked up a portcrystal on your travels, this is one of the best areas to place it down since the city doesn’t have one of its own. Then, head to the southwest corner of the city to find Brokkr’s smithy, where you will find the curmudgeonly dwarf Brokkr and his apprentice, Sara.
As in the other quests he is involved in, Brokkr is less than helpful and it’s up to Sara to step in to move things along. Wait for Brokkr to walk out of the building and she will explain that he can’t work because they’re out of fuel for the forge, and the cave they source it from is infested with monsters. You’ll need to head to a cave caled Digger’s Ruins south-west of the city to find 15 pieces of Glimmercoal to relight the forge.
If you’ve made it this far in Dragon’s Dogma 2 then the ruins shouldn’t pose too much of a challenge, and you don’t actually need to explore that far to gather what you need. There are, however, a number of bandits, slimes, and even a minotaur residing within the caven and it can be a good idea to clear them out before beginning your hunt for coal.
You’ll likely notice as soon as you enter the cave, but there are translucent crystals you can pick up all over the walls and floors of the cave. But pick them up, and you’ll likely find them to be Glymercole rather than the Glimmercoal you’re looking for. You could pick some up to sell, but it won’t help you with the quest at hand, so we recommend you save your inventory space for now.
To find the real stuff, you’ll need to turn off your lantern, which is why we recommend clearing out the cavern first. When in darkness, you will see the true Glimmercoal light up in green, making it easy to see and collect 15 chunks of the stuff.
Once you’ve returned to Sara in Bakbattahl and handed over the fuel, you’ll get some more dialogue in which Brokkr still refuses to work on the sword even with the forge relit. Despite the setback, Sara still offers to help but will need you to entrust the weapon to her for a few days. You can refuse, but to advance the questline to the next stage, you will need to hand it over.
How to Complete Steeled Resolve, Blazing Forge in Dragon’s Dogma 2
A few days after leaving the sword with Sara, you’ll get a new quest called ‘Steeled Resolve, Blazing Forge,’ which asks you to visit her again at the forge. Talk to Sara, and she will explain she hasn’t made much progress with the blade but has learned that it will require the use of a Blazehammer that she doesn’t have access to at the moment. Leave and wait a few more days before returning to the forge, and Brokkr will inform you that Sara has left for the Volcanic Isle to find a forge hot enough to heat a Blazehammer in.
The cave is handily marked on your map, so finding it won’t be a problem. However, it requires traveling far south of Battahl through a cave called Drabnir’s Grotto. The cave is long and dark, so you should bring plenty of healing supplies and oil, though the inhabitants themselves are generally more numerous than dangerous.
Once you’re out the other side, it’s recommended you carry on along the path to the Volcanic Island Camp rather than going straight to the cave so you can rest up and resupply. Consider dropping down another portcrystal here, you won’t need it for this quest but it will make future adventures on the isle easier. From there, you’ll need to head back to the Mountain Base Cave, where you’ll find some smithing equipment set up around the entrance.
You’ll want to head in and clear out any monsters you can see before finding and talking to Sara in front of the impressive-looking forge because you’ll now need to lead her back to the entrance before the super-heated hammer cools down. The way is deceptively tricky and moves up and down a lot, but you can see a usable route to and from Sara below:
Once done, you’ll need to return to Bakbattahl so Sara can put the finishing touches on the Regalia Sword, before finally returning to Vermund to hand the blade to Roman and completing the quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2. While you won’t receive the sword itself as an equippable weapon, you will receive a chunk of experience and a large sum of gold, but perhaps the most useful reward is the ability to talk to Sara for access to a new style of weapon enhancement: Dwarven smithing.
Dwarven smithing, like other smithing styles, lets you enhance your equipment with a focus on certain attributes. In this case, you can add extra strength and knockdown power to weapons or physical defense and knockdown resistance on armor at the cost of increasing weight.
While seemingly intended for Warriors and Fighters, who wear a lot of heavy equipment anyway, Archers and Thieves may also find some use in making their fast-hitting weapons inflict more knockdown. This smithing style is also available by completing the same quest that unlocks the Magick Archer vocation, but Sara being in Bakbattahl makes it much more accessible.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
