How to Recruit Umerus in Unicorn Overlord

Umerus is a tricky character to recruit in Unicorn Overlord, because the battle involves handling enemies from two sides, busting down gates, and making sure you handle a situation properly. It’s such a challenge that even the enemy level noted is 32, I would suggest doing a bit of level grinding for your units so everyone is at 32-34 before heading into the fight.

How do I recruit Umerus in Unicorn Overlord?

Now, I triggered this quest fairly early on, but that’s because I came to Albion via Elheim’s Lunokeu Harbor. So I was basically heading north and east toward it. But for someone coming from Bastorias, you’ll be heading south and west after arriving via Devolpis Harbor. Just outside of Heavensriver Town, Alain and Scarlett will run into her former friend Umerus when Scarlett is talking about the gardens she loved. Umerus offers to lead the duo to them. 

Directly between Heavensriver Town and Fort Viridian Hill on the map, you’ll see Umerus waiting on the overworld with an exclamation point over her head. Talking to the angel will trigger a story event, then lead to a battle. This will kick off “A Faded Flower.” Hodel and his forces will be to the east, while Umerus will be to the west. You don’t need to immediately enter into the fight. So while it is a trap, you will get time to prepare.

The key here is you need to have Scarlett in one of your units. This is because while no Stage Conversations will be listed right away, you will eventually get an opportunity to send Scarlett to talk to Umerus to start the recruiting process in Unicorn Overlord. Fighting Hodel in the east first and defeating him is the key. This triggers an overworld conversation that explains why Umerus is fighting alongside Hodel.

After that, the option to talk to Umerus with Scarlett appeared, since he was no longer there to force the character’s hand. Send the units with Scarlett over, and make sure she is well protected and makes it to Umerus alive. Direct the unit she is in to talk to Umerus. This conversation will end the battle. It will trigger a story scene between Umerus and Scarlett. 

After the conversation, you get 35 Renown, a Spellsteel Bow, a Dream Blossom, and the Magebane Knights key item. Scarlett and Umerus will also approach Alain on the overworld after you get the rewards for a scene in which she joins the army properly. The reason Umerus was fighting is also taken away and has a happy resolution.
