How do I find and recruit the Bounty Hunter?

Every Hero, except for the initial party of four and the two dlc Heroes, can be acquired by adventuring to the Altar of Hope. To unlock each character, spend four Candles of Hope on the first node of a character’s skill tree. While Candles of Hope are needed to recruit the Bounty Hunter to your team, the requirements are slightly different. To recruit the Bounty Hunter, you must first unlock him by spending five Candles of Hope in the Living City. Unlike other Heroes in Darkest Dungeon 2, the Bounty Hunter can’t be added to the party once unlocked with 5 Candles of Hope. You will need to hire him before he officially joins your team.

Hire the Bounty Hunter by finding his poster hanging on the wall above the fireplace at the Inn. The poster will have an emblem of his mask with two weapons intertwined beneath it. It will also have a yellow aura glowing underneath it as the poster is easy to miss. Once you’ve navigated to the Bounty Hunter’s flyer, you will need to pay four more Candles of Hope to place him in the party. He will replace a Hero on your team if you have a full party. Otherwise, he slots into one of the four empty positions on your team.

The Bounty Hunter is not available for hire each time you reach the Inn, however. His poster has a 45% chance of appearing at the Inn as it is based on RNG. As you get closer to the Mountain, the probability of the Bounty Hunter gets lower. Be cautious of when you hire this Hero. The Bounty Hunter will only accompany you for one run in a playthrough.

Is recruiting the Bounty Hunter worth it?

While the Bounty Hunter is difficult to come by, his effectiveness in parties makes it worth the hassle. His skills come readily enhanced unlike other characters in which you need to spend Mastery Points to upgrade skills. The Bounty Hunter’s strength lies with these skills. He has the ability to pull enemies closer with the Come Hither skill. This skill pairs well with his Collect Bounty attack: A close range skill that deals 8-12 damage and 50% more when an enemy is afflicted with the Combo Token. This powerful Hero doesn’t alter the relationship status of characters in your party like other Heroes. His unchanging role as the Professional gives him the edge above recruiting other characters in Darkest Dungeon 2.

Darkest Dungeon 2 is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4|5, Xbox, and PC.
