Opera and Ernest are back in Star Ocean The Second Story R, and you can find out how to recruit them to your team here. Keep in mind you can only have six additional party members besides Claude and Rena, so these two will take up a third of those slots.
How to recruit Opera in Star Ocean The Second Story R
Before attempting to get Ernest in Star Ocean The Second Story R, you must recruit Opera first. However, there is one prerequisite you must meet. You cannot recruit Ashton at all to your party, or else you will lose out on both Opera and Ernest.
In the original game, you had to view a certain Private Action Event involving Ernest to get Opera. However, this is now a mandatory story event that you will naturally unlock by progressing through the game until you reach Krosse. When you go to the Krosse Castle as part of the main story, you’ll see this event where you bump into a three-eyed man, who happens to be Ernest (more on him later).
At this point, you must keep going through the game until you reach the city of Hilton. Head to the bar in Hilton for a scene involving Opera Vectra. Once this happens, fast travel back to Krosse Castle and speak with the king. Enter the Mountain Palace east of Kurik, head east at the first fork, and continue on this path to find Opera. She will ask to join the group, and you can now recruit her.
How to recruit Ernest in Star Ocean The Second Story R
Opera is a requirement to recruit Ernest in this game. So, the first thing you need to do is see Ernest in Krosse and unlock Opera. After this, complete the Mountain Palace dungeon. Once you have her, head to the Sacred Forest and find her crashed ship.
Then, what you want to do is continue the main story until you reach the dungeon of the Hoffman Ruins. Complete this dungeon and leave to run into Ernest again finally. You’ll have a tough boss battle here against the possessed Ernest with a ton of health, but you can beat him!
Once you defeat him in his possessed state, Ernest and Opera will be reunited again. You’ll now get the option to recruit Ernest and keep Opera around, and you’ll have both on your team. Or you can kick both of them out at the same time, for whatever reason, if you want.
