Karlach is the prime example of not judging a book by its cover. As the Barbarian party member in Baldur’s Gate 3, her striking Zariel Tiefling appearance might seem alarming, but she is honestly one of the most transparent and fun characters in the game. Here’s how to recruit Karlach in Baldur’s Gate 3.

You can recruit Karlach in Baldur’s Gate 3 as soon as you land on the ground after completing the Nautiloid tutorial sequence. To do this, head to the northern side of the map to the coordinates of X: 112, Y: 511. The problem with this is that the game doesn’t explain how to reach this side very well.

What you want to do is head west from the Druid Grove until you reach the bridge before the Blighted Village. On the west end of the bridge, head along the path to the north and you’ll see a dog (who you can also add to your camp if you can speak to animals).

Keep heading north by the river until you come to a large rock in the middle of the river. You can jump to this rock and then use it to jump to the other side of the river. From here, head on the nearby road east. It will take you to the coordinates above where you find Karlach imprisoned in fire.

Free her from the fire and she will reveal that she is hunting down some Paladins nearby. To recruit her for your party, you need to help her with this task. If you have a full party, she will go on ahead to the house north of you. If you have an open spot though, she’ll immediately join.

Head to the marked house directly to the north and take out the three Paladins there. After this, Karlach will go berserk for a bit, cool down, and then be a permanent member of your party.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is available for PCs and will release for the PS5 on September 6, 2023.
