Mohg, a very late game boss, is a wall for players before starting the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Reaching Mohg fast in Elden Ring involves a questline with online invasion, but there’s actually an offline method.
How do I reach Mohg alone and offline in Elden Ring
To reach Mohg quickly in Elden Ring, you need to complete White Mask Varré’s questline. This quest ultimately rewards you with the Pureblood Knight’s Medal. This item teleports you straight to Mohgwyn’s Palace, where Mohg resides.
Now, this tactic is really for peoplewith a New Game+ file in Elden Ring to get to Mohg quickly for the DLC. On NG+ and at a very high soul level, it is very difficult to perform online invasions. Since Varré’s quest has mandatory invasions, this locked many NG+ players and offline players out. But, there’s now a way around it.
Also, a word of warning. Doing this on a fresh new game will leave you severely underprepared to fight Mohg when you get the medal.
How do I completing White Mask Varré’s questline offline in Elden Ring?
First, find White Mask Varré at The First Step Site of Grace in Limgrave. He is the first NPC you encounter. Famously, he’s the one that calls you “maidenless”. After obtaining any Great Rune talk to Enia at the Roundtable Hold. After this, Varré moves to Rose Church in the lake in southwest Liurnia.
At the Rose Church, tell Varré you think something is off with the two fingers and he will give you five Festering Bloody Fingers. He wants you to use three to invade other players worlds. Now, this is where the online component comes in. You don’t have to defeat the players, only use the finger and invade. However, if you’re offline or are too high leveled to successfully invade, there’s now another option.
As of patch 1.06, there’s an in-game NPC you can invade using Festering Bloody Fingers. In the northern section of Altus Plateau, you’ll find Writheblood Ruins. There’s several Bloodhounds here, but most importantly there’s a red invasion sign for Magnus the Beast Claw.
Invading him this way uses a Festering Bloody Finger, satisfying Varré’s request. Remember you only need to invade, not win. Use the finger to invade him and let him kill you, then repeat two more times. You can kill him on the third time if you want, but don’t have to. Now, return to Rose Church and Varré will continue the questline. No online required!
How do I get the Pureblood Knight’s Medal in Elden Ring
Varré will ask you to join the Bloody Lord’s order. Accept, then he will give you the Lord of Blood’s Favor. Your final task is to soak it in a maiden’s blood. Varré again takes this opportunity to call you maidenless.
The easiest way to find maiden’s blood is by heading to the Church of Inhibition near Frenzy-Flaming Tower. You can find this a bit southeast from the Lift of Dectus. There will be a dead maiden just sitting on a chair next to the Site of Grace. Interact with her corpse to gather the blood. However, Festering Fingerprint Vyke will invade when you get close to the church. If you’re quick enough you can actually activate the grace before fighting Vyke.
Return the blood-soaked Favor to Varré to receive a reusable Bloody Finger. Finally, Speak with him again to get the Pureblood Knight’s Medal, which teleports you directly to Mohgwyn’s Palace, providing the earliest access to the Mohg boss fight.
Elden Ring is available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, and the Shadow of Erdtree DLC appears on June 21, 2024.
