Starfield has plenty of gear for you to collect and put on, but the helmet is one of the most important. Helmets protect your character’s head, giving you some solid defensive stats while also allowing them to breathe in otherwise harmful environments. Fortunately, it is quite easy to put on a helmet in Starfield.

How to Get a Helmet in Starfield

What you want to do is first collect a helmet of some kind. You can do this by looting the dead bodies of your enemies or by purchasing one from a store in the game. Once you have a helmet item, open up the main menu and navigate to your inventory in the bottom right corner.

Look for the helmet section here and then you can equip any of the items with the press of the A button on controller or a click with your mouse on PC. You’ll instantly wear the helmet so long as you also have a spacesuit equipped at the same time.

How to Take Off and Hide Your Helmet in Starfield

Putting on a helmet is quite easy and so is taking one off, as you only need to press on the same item in your inventory. However, there is a hidden feature the game doesn’t tell you much about, and that is the ability to hide your helmet in certain locations.

Go to the helmet section in your inventory and press the RB button on controller or the B key on your keyboard. Either one will now hide your helmet whenever you are in a location where you can breathe safely without it.

You’ll automatically take off your helmet in major settlements like Neon, New Atlantis, and the like, and put it back on again when you’re in a dangerous area.

Starfield is available for the Xbox Series X and PC.
