If you pay attention to your mini-map in the Ringing Deeps, you might notice a specially marked treasure inside Gundargaz. This is the Dusty Prospector’s Chest, which needs several gems to open it in WoW: The War Within. Here’s how to get your hands on them.
What’s inside the Dusty Prospector’s Chest in WoW The War Within?
The chest contains 5 Epic gems you can sell or use for Jewelcrafting, as well as either 30 Resonance Crystals or 150 renown with the Assembly of the Deeps faction. On it’s own this isn’t that much, but because you can claim the treasure on every character able to reach the zone you can quickly end up with a decent amount of treasure.
Where are the Rough Deep Gems in WoW The War Within?
The Dusty Prospector’s Chest treasure requires five gems to open it : a Rough Deepamethyst Shard, a Rough Deepruby Shard, a Rough Deepdiamond Shard, a Rough Deepemerald Shard, and a Rough Deeptopaz Shard. Each of these can be found hiding within large seams of crystals around the Ringing Deeps, and they can appear in multiple places at once within each seam. The interactable crystals do glow slightly, however it’s difficult to see until you mouse over them so be prepared to hunt about a bit.
Below is a map with a confirmed spot for each of the crystals to appear (though you can find them elsewhere nearby), along with screenshots of what they look like and co-ordinates in case you’re using an add-on that supports them.
- Rough Deepamethyst Shard – 44.7, 22.7 On the way from Gundargaz to the Stonevault.
- Rough Deepemerald Shard – 59.8, 40.7 By a minecart track and gate.
- Rough Deepruby Shard – 57.4, 49.4 Next to a large drill.
- Rough Deeptopaz Shard- 62.5, 63.2 In an open area near the Cursed Pickaxe treasure.
- Rough Deepdiamond Shard – 68.2, 53.2 Near the Disturbed Earthgorger Rare.

Where is the Dusty Prospector’s Chest in WoW The War Within?
Once you’ve obtained the 5 gems, you’re ready to open the chest itself. You can find it within Gundargaz, though it can be a little annoying to find as it’s nestled deep within one of the structures. You’ll want to go to inn, the building with the mailbox outside and the large keg above the door. You’ll know you’ve found the right building when you see Innkeeper Brax standing at the front desk. Head through the back and take a left at the T-junction and the the chest will be in the room at the end, on your right-hand side. Open it for your reward: 5 random The War Within gems and either 150 reputation with the Assembly of the Deeps (if it’s your first time claiming the loot) or 30 Resonance Crystals.
