You might find that the Frontier starter ship in Starfield is just not big or powerful enough for you. If this is the case, there is an A-class ship you can earn for free in this game right from the start. The Star Eagle is one of the best A-class ships in Starfield, and it only takes a few hours to unlock it.
How to Get the Star Eagle in Starfield
To get the Star Eagle ship in Starfield, you have to complete the entire Freestar Collective Ranger faction storyline. It is one of the shortest factions in the entire game, so this is, thankfully, an easy task. The final quest in the story, ‘The Hammer Falls’ gives you the Star Eagle ship as a reward upon completion.
If you haven’t started the Freestar Collective Ranger storyline yet, what you want to do is head to Akila City on the planet Akila in the Cheyenne System. When you arrive at the port, walk into town and you’ll automatically encounter a bank robbery situation where there are some hostages in trouble.
Speak with the Marshal there to assess the situation and then approach the intercom to deal with the culprits. Completing this quest gives you the chance to join the Rangers and start their faction storyline. Upon full completion of this plot, you’ll unlock the Star Eagle ship as the ultimate reward.
Tips for Improving the Star Eagle Ship
The best part about the Star Eagle is anyone can use it and it is one of the best A-class ships you’ll find in the game. It has excellent storage, a hefty size that allows for five crew members, and decent speed. It even has three weapons, including an electromagnetic one for disabling ships and stealing them.
Basically, the Star Eagle is already nearly perfect for this default ship class. That said, there is one way I would make the Star Eagle better. Though it has massive storage space with 2,500 cargo, it doesn’t have a single inch of shielded cargo. If you want to run some illegal contraband in the game, you’ll want some of this.
You can upgrade the Star Eagle with shielded cargo at either The Key if you’re a Crimson Fleet member or the Red Mile at Porrima III. Speak with the ship technician in charge at either location.
