Seasoned The Legend of Zelda fans will undoubtedly want to hunt Link’s Hylian Shield down as soon as possible in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. I definitely did. Here’s how to get your hands on it. Fortunately, you don’t have to wait too long, if you want to rush.

How do I Find the Hylian Shield in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

While you can technically obtain it as soon as you reach Hyrule, I wouldn’t recommend it unless you want to die repeatedly. Trust me; I learned that the hard way. Because it’s arguably the second most iconic item in the series behind the Master Sword, which you can also get in Tears of the Kingdom, Nintendo doesn’t give it up without a fight.

To find the Hylian Shield, head to where Hyrule Castle once was before it got sent into the sky. Travel to the north section and drop down to the moat to find the Docks. Look for a small cave opening. You’ll know you’re in the right place when you spot a circle of lily pads. You can jump into this for a Korok Seed.

Walk into the cave and up the stone stairs to the left of the room, where you’ll be met with a set of Gloom Hands. (I told you it wouldn’t be easy!) Without spoiling too much, if you’ve never defeated one before, prepare for a second, more difficult fight once it’s dead.

If you make it out alive, continue up the steps to reach a platform with some torches and a large, unlit brazier. Equip your bow and dip an arrow into one of the torches to light it, then shoot it at the brazier. A chest will appear directly behind Link. Open it for the Hylian Shield.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch. If you want to get the Champion’s Tunic to go with your new Hylian Shield, we’ve got you covered.
