How Do You Get the Bad Ending in Tekken 8?

Editor’s Note: This article contains story spoilers for Tekken 8.

The outcome of the Tekken 8 story entirely depends on the final battle between Jin and Kazuya in Chapter 15: Strength and Conviction. This climactic battle sees both fighters battling without their devil powers in a raw demonstration of strength.

The fight has multiple stages, during which Jin’s moveset will differ slightly, bringing in elements from past Tekken games. Between these phases, players will need to complete a series of quick time events. Two QTEs will happen after a series of flashbacks and a third will appear in between rounds of the final phase.

To get the bad ending, you need to fail these QTEs and complete the final round against Kazuya. You also don’t need to win the final round to trigger the ending. Due to the generous timing of these QTEs and how unlikely players are to miss them, the bad ending can only really be gained by deliberately failing them.

How Does the Tekken 8 Bad Ending Differ from the Good Ending?

The bad ending of the Tekken 8 Story Mode is drastically different to the good ending. The final fight determines not only if Jin or Kazuya is victorious, but whoever wins determines the fate of the world. This is best illustrated in the names of the two endings. While Jin’s victory results in an ending called Hope, a Kazuya victory unlocks an ending called Despair.

In the bad ending, Kazuya defeats Jin and resumes his war on the world. He also disposes of Jin in the usual Mishima fashion: throwing him off a cliff. The fighter images over the end credits also change to reflect this bleak outcome.

Tekken 8 is available now for PS5, PC and Xbox Series X/S.
