Poltchageist and its evolution, Sinistcha, are two Pokemon added to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet‘s Gen 9 in The Teal Mask DLC. And, unlike most of the new Pokemon, they’re not Shiny-locked. Here’s how to get Shiny Poltchageist and Shiny Sinistcha in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

How do I get Shiny Poltchageist in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?

Unless you own The Teal Mask DLC, the only way you can get Shiny Poltchageist is by trading for one with another player. If you do own it, though, it is possible to grind for one in Kitakami. You can find one in the wild by chance, but it is incredibly rare, so I’d recommend the Mass Outbreak method.

Once you’ve found a Poltchageist Mass Outbreak, knock out around 60 Poltchageist until the “There are not many Pokemon left from the original outbreak” message appears. I find using the Let’s Go method the easiest, as your Pokemon will knock them out automatically without initiating the battle sequence. Make sure to count and stop as soon as the message pops up.

After the required number of Poltchageist have been knocked out, check all of the Pokemon in the area to see if there’s a Shiny Poltchageist. If not, hop on Koraidon/Miraidon and ride away until the current pool of Pokemon despawns. Then ride back over to make a new pool respawn, check if the new spawns are Shiny, and rinse and repeat. Having the Shiny Charm will increase your Shiny odds. And, if you can, make a Sparkling Power Level 3 Sandwich to boost them even further.

I recommend making a sandwich with Ghost Sparkling Power Level 3, Ghost Title Power Level 3, and Ghost Encounter Power Level 3 by using the following ingredients:

  • Tomato.
  • Onion.
  • Green Pepper.
  • Hamburger.
  • 2 Red Onion.
  • 2 Herba Mystica (Bitter/Salty/Spicy/Sour/Sweet).

It will take a while to find a Shiny Poltchageist, so have plenty of patience. Look for a Poltchageist with dark green on its porcelain instead of black. It helps to do the Mass Outbreak in the daytime so you can see the color difference more easily.

How to get a Poltchageist Mass Outbreak

If you don’t currently have one on your map in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet The Teal Mask, you can force a Poltchageist Mass Outbreak to spawn by Reveler’s Road. Start by teleporting to Kitakami Hall. Once there, eat the sandwich I mentioned above, then save and then suspend your game. Go to your Nintendo Switch settings and set your system time forward by one day. Open your game back up, and your current Mass Outbreaks should have changed. If you don’t see a Poltchageist one on your map, rinse and repeat the above method until it appears.

How do I get Shiny Sinistcha in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?

For Shiny Sinistcha, the only way to obtain one without trading in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is either by evolving a Shiny Poltchageist or by getting incredibly lucky and finding one in a Tera Raid. Sinistcha does not spawn in the wild, so you cannot use the Mass Outbreak method to Shiny Hunt for one.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and The Teal Mask DLC are available now on Nintendo Switch.
