How to Evolve Annihilape in Pokemon GO

Evolving Primeape is a bit more complicated than just gathering enough candies. To evolve the Gen 1 favorite into Annihilape in Pokemon GO, you’ll also need to “adventure with your buddy”. In this case, that means you’ll need to defeat 30 Ghost-type or Psychic-type Pokemon while Annihilape is set as your buddy.

Don’t worry; there’s an easy way to grind it out if you have a friend who also plays the game. So, 30 Pokemon in a specific type is a tall order, but luckily, there’s some good news. You don’t have to defeat them with Primeape, it only has to be your buddy when it happens. This is good because my strategy involves teaming up with a real-life buddy to complete the task.

Make Primeape your buddy, then go ahead and start a battle with your nearby friend. Have your friend make a party of low-level ghosts or psychic Pokémon. Rinse and repeat until you’ve taken down 30.

If you have to change your buddy for some reason, the game remembers the ones you got, but any while Primeape is not your buddy won’t count, so don’t forget to change it back. Unfortunately, trading the Primeape will reset the counter for the new owner.

This is the process my son used to evolve his Primeape, and it only took about 30 minutes or so. However, keep in mind you’ll still need 100 candies, and there’s really no trick in that process. Just keep grinding out those candies, and eventually, you’ll hit the 100 you need.

Pokemon GO is available on iOS and Android.
