How to Get Ogerpon in the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC

Ogerpon is the new Legendary Pokemon mascot that you can catch in the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet The Teal Mask DLC. However, you will need to complete certain story-based quests to unlock the Legendary’s special encounter. Here is how to get Ogerpon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

How to get Ogerpon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet The Teal Mask

Ogerpon becomes available in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet during the third act of the Teal Mask DLC storyline. After defeating the Loyal Three trio, the Legendary Mask Pokemon will be catchable during a cutscene. However, you will need to complete two last objectives before you can add the adorable mascot to your team. The first hurdle is one last fight with Kieran, who challenges you to a battle for ownership of Ogerpon. Yeah, I know, the audacity of a trainer trying to battle for ownership of a Pokemon!

After beating the rival, you will then need to face off against Ogerpon itself and its multiple forms. The way the battle works is that Ogerpon has four masks it switches between, which include Hearthflame, Cornerstone, Wellspring, and Teal. After you defeat one mask, the Pokemon will then swap to his next form. Because of this rotating mask system, Ogerpon has Fire, Water, Rock, and Grass-type moves. Once you win the battle, you will then be prompted to throw a Pokeball at Ogerpon for a guaranteed catch.

Where to find Ogerpon’s location in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet The Teal Mask

Ogerpon is located at the Oni Mountain Dreaded Den in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. As mentioned above, though, you can’t actually catch the Legendary Pokemon until you progress the Teal Mask story. Once you reach the third act in the Kitakami campaign, you will automatically be taken to the Dreaded Den to add Ogerpon to your Pokedex.

How to change Ogerpon mask forms in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Ogerpon has four forms it can transform into in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, with each mask changing its element type. Unlike past Legendaries, though, Ogerpon’s transformation isn’t tied to Key Items, as its masks are actually considered Held Items instead. Transforming Ogerpon requires you to make the Kitakami Legendary hold either the Wellspring Mask, Hearthflame Mask, or Cornerstone Mask.

To use this feature, access your bag by pressing the X button on your Nintendo Switch controller. Next, look for Ogerpon’s masks in the Other Items tab and then select which one you want to give to it. After making Ogerpon hold a mask, it will automatically transform to its new typing. If you want Ogerpon to revert back to its Teal Mask form, just put away the mask it’s currently holding.

Can Ogerpon be Shiny in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?

Unfortunately, Ogerpon is Shiny locked in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. This means you can not catch Shiny Ogerpon in The Teal Mask. If past games are anything to go by, though, Game Freak will eventually release the Kitakami Legendary Pokemon’ alternate colors during a future in-game event.
