There are a number of Private Action side stories and quests in Star Ocean The Second Story R, and getting Metorx for Eleanor is a very time sensitive and missable one. Recruit the wrong people and move too fast, and there are dire consequences.
How do I meet Eleanor in Star Ocean The Second Story R?
First, you need to recruit Ashton for your party. If you don’t have him around, you’ll never get to meet Eleanor in Harley. But if you do, then immediately after adding him to the group head to the port town. The timing is critical here, and you don’t want to leave Krosse Continent without finishing this storyline.
Start a Private Action in Harley. When you do, head down the side street toward the back of town to the icon indicated on the map, near the antique shop.
You’ll see Ashton find a handkerchief on the ground. He’ll pick it up and take it inside a house, while an NPC turns to watch. If you talk to the NPC standing nearby before following him, you’ll learn about the person who lives inside. It’s a little girl named Eleanor. Follow him in, and you’ll learn more about her. End the Private Action.
As an aside, it is also possible to trigger this PA sidequest with Bowman if you recruit him later in the story. However, the ending can change if he’s involved.
How do I get Metorx in Star Ocean The Second Story R?
From where you are, immediately start another Private Action. You don’t need to leave Harley or the house. Instead of being in Eleanor’s room, an event will trigger and put you on the first floor of the house. Ashton will implore you to follow him upstairs.
Eleanor is in need of a special herb to be used as medicine. However, it’s believed to be a myth. The only clue the doctor gives is that it is “on the mountain where the breath of the phoenix flows.”
Head to Lasgus Mountains which is west of Krosse City. I marked it on the map below. Fast traveling to Krosse is a big help here.
Once you’re inside this dungeon, the path will fork right after the save point. Head to the right, then go to the small cave. There you’ll see a red plant you can investigate. Doing so gets you the Metorx.
Fast travel back to Harley’s entrance. When you do, start a Private Action. You’ll immediately trigger an event with Ashton where you head to Eleanor’s house and deliver the Metorx to the doctor.
You get no reward from the questline, other than knowing you did a good thing. Oh, also your relationship with Ashton and Celine will improve.
