You will need to complete a secret side quest if you want to get the Lazy Shell in Super Mario RPG. Here is how to get the strongest weapon and armor in the Nintendo remake.
Where to get Mario RPG Seed and Fertilizer
During the main story, you will eventually travel to Bean Valley, which ends with a boss encounter with Queen Valentina’s servant, Beezo. After defeating his watered Piranha plant, you can find a note attached to the north corner of the map.
Interacting with the letter will allow you to obtain a Seed. If you are confused about what to do with the item, at first, that is understandable. That is because it’s tied to a secret side quest further into the game. In Super Mario RPG, the Seed and Fertilizer is needed to unlock the Lazy Shell weapon and armor in Nimbus Land.
As you have probably already guessed, the next step in the quest is to track down the Fertilizer. Thankfully, the item is fairly close by! The Mario RPG Fertilizer can be found at the east entrance of Nimbus Land.
While walking alongside the edges of the cloud city, you will discover an invisible path that leads to Beezo’s hiding spot. The path is hard to spot, as Mario has to literally walk on air itself. You can find the path’s exact location in the image below:
After walking a few feet in the sky, you will eventually run into Beezo one last time. Interact with Valentina’s servant to trigger a dialogue cutscene. The NPC will quickly give you the Fertilizer item to make you go away.
Now that you have the Mario RPG Seed and Fertilizer items, you must fast-travel back to Rose Town. To do this, pause your game and select the menu tab. Next, navigate to the Tadpole Pond Region and select the Rose Town option to warp to the location.
After you’ve arrived at Rose Town, head north of the map and walk to the back of the village. Once here, you will need to take the path leading you to the second area of the town, which contains a single house in a field.
Enter the home, and you will find the Gardener. Speak to the Toad NPC and agree to hand over the Seed and Fertilizer. This section is a bit lengthy as the Gardener speaks a lot and even manages to annoy Mario. So just keep cycling through his dialogue until you can give him the Seed and Fertilizer.
The Gardner will then grow a beanstalk with the Mario RPG Seed and Fertilizer items, which leads directly to Nimbus land. After a cutscene, you can now climb the beanstalk with Mario, leading you directly to a cloud in the sky with two floating chests. Both chests in Nimbus land contain the Lazy Shell Weapon and Armor.
What is the Lazy Shell in Mario RPG?
The Lazy Shell is the strongest weapon and armor in Super Mario RPG. You should equip the Lazy Shell weapon on Mario, as it raises his Attack stat by 30 points, boosting his physical moves by a substantial margin.
On the other hand, the Lazy Shell armor should be equipped on Princess Peach in Super Mario RPG. The item might look awful on paper, as it reduces your character’s attack stat by 50. However, it also boosts their Defense Stat by as much as 100 points, making them pretty much invincible.
Since Princess Peach can heal your entire party, the Lazy Shell armor guarantees she will stay protected. This strategy centers more on end-game battles or the secret Culex boss battle, which is incredibly difficult to survive. The Lazy Shell armor will keep your party’s healer alive long enough to revive anyone who has fallen.
