Where to find Ferrystones in Dragon’s Dogma 2 – location

You can fast travel in Dragon’s Dogma 2, but the Capcom RPG has a fairly limited system. The game does not have the typical “open your map” and “warp to location” features. Instead, Dragon’s Dogma 2 mainly centers its fast travel mechanic around Portcrystals, which allows players to warp back to a major city instantly. However, using this system comes at a pretty hefty price.

To fast travel with Portcrystals in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you need to use a Ferrystone. The only problem is that these items are really expensive and are also pretty rare. Each time you warp back to a Portcrystal, the Ferrystone you use will break. So you will need to find another one before you can warp again.

Here are the places you can get Ferrystones in Dragon’s Dogma 2:

  • Purchase from Item shops for 10,000 Gold.
  • Buy from wandering merchants located in small towns or traveling the overworld.
  • Reward for completing certain quests.
  • Random reward in Chests.
  • Overworld drop.

Purchase Ferrystones at Stores

The first place you can purchase a Ferrystone in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is at Philbert’s Sundries item shop in Vernworth Capital. The store is marked on your map with a potion icon. Simply head to the center of Vernwroth and look for the item shop, which is directly next to the armory and blacksmith.

Once you speak to the NPC running Vernworth’s item store, you can purchase the Ferrystone for 10,000 Gold. Yep, I wasn’t lying when I said the item was expensive! Making matters worse, most shops, including Philbert’s Sundries, will only sell you 1 Ferrystone before being sold out. However, you can usually purchase a single Ferrystone at an item shop in every major city in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Wandering Merchants

As you explore the map, you will sometimes run into wandering merchants. These NPCs are fairly easy to spot, as they have a giant backpack on them. You can also find these portable vendors in smaller towns, such as the beachside city of Harve. Speak to them, and sometimes they will sell you a Ferrystone for $10,000 Gold.

Quest Rewards and Overworld Drops

Another way to obtain Ferrystones is by completing side quests. After completing certain side stories, NPCs will reward you with a single Ferrystone. However, in my playthrough, I found this pretty rare. So, while not the most reliable way to farm the fast travel item, it’s something to keep an eye out for if you are going to be completing quests anyway. Ferrystones can also be found as random drops in the overworld. So, if you are looking through a house or room, make sure to check every table, floor, and corner.

Chests

Finally, Ferrystones can be found in chests throughout the map in Dragon’s Dogma 2. As you are exploring the map, make sure to open any chest that you see. During my save file, I actually found two Ferrystones by opening chests in the game’s opening areas. So it’s worth interacting with any chest you spot.

How to use Portcrystals in Dragon’s Dogma 2

To use Ferrystones in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you need to first find and activate a Portcrystal in one of the game’s major cities. The very first Porcrystal you unlock in the RPG is in the Vernworth Capital. Below are the steps you need to take to use Portcrystals in Dragon’s Dogma 2:

  • Find a Portcrystal and activate it.
  • Pause your game and then click the “Item” menu.
  • In your item inventory, select a Ferrystone and press the “use” button.
  • Next, select one of the Portcystals you have unlocked and confirm that you want to warp to it.
  • You will then automatically use up your Ferrystone, and you will instantly fast-travel to the Portcrystal you’ve selected.

Ferrystones are incredibly rare in Dragon’s Dogma 2, and there is no real way to “farm” them. Because of this, you want to use the feature pretty sparingly. In my playthrough, I would only use a Portcrystal if I had spent hours completing several quests and found myself really far away from a major city. Instead of spending days walking back on foot, I would use up a Ferrystone.

Because the items are so limited, though, I really do recommend you conserve them. They should be saved for rare occasions when you are stuck in a pinch and need to return to a major city quickly. For instance, in my game, half of my party was wiped out by a Dragon. Because I couldn’t re-summon my lost Pawns, I made a fast retreat back to Vernworth with a Ferrystone. Instead, consider using the Oxcart system for most of your travels. While limited, they only cost 200 Gold a ride.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X / S, and PC.
