A tradition in Story of Seasons/Bokujou Monogatari games is to get a horse you can ride around, and Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life is no different. You’ll eventually get one. However, you don’t need to pay or meet some special requirement. I found that on the first day of Summer in your first year, right around noon, Takakura will interrupt whatever you’re doing with a cutscene to get your equine companion.

How do you get, care for, and use a horse in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life?

You don’t need to worry about paying for a horse, as at noon on Spring 1, Year 1, Takakura brings a horse to your farm in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life as a gift. When he does, you get to “guess” which color it is. (This is actually you deciding if you want a brown, black, or white horse.) You then determine where you want its trough in the barn to appear, and that’s it!

While some Story of Seasons entries began with a foal, your horse here is fully grown. You can immediately begin riding it around Forgotten Valley. This offers a quicker way to get to some areas of the map, especially if you want to visit neighbors or try to trigger events.

To care for the horse, you either should leave it in the pasture where it can graze on grass or leave one piece of fodder in its trough every day. You can also talk to it, snuggle it, and use a brush on it to clean it up. While I don’t know if it is still a possibility in this new version of the game, as I didn’t want to risk killing it, I do recall the horse could die in the original installment if you didn’t care for it. So make sure you, at the very least, always leave some fodder for it or let it outside.

Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life is available for the Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
