Your ship in Starfield is like your home in space. You will spend a lot of time here as you explore, sleep here to recover health, and even use it as a mobile base to gather together your allies. But your initial ship, the Frontier, starts off quite small, so here is how to get a bigger ship in Starfield.

3 Ways to Get a Bigger Ship in Starfield

There are three main ways to get a bigger ship in Starfield, and it, ultimately, comes down to how you want to go about it:

  1. Buy a bigger ship or earn one from certain content
  2. Steal a ship from someone else
  3. Create your own large ship from scratch

The first method is the simplest: you can go to any ship technician at any major city in the game or space station and buy a ship directly from them. But you’re likely looking at hundreds of thousands of credits to get a ship this way. In the same vein, there are some quests and content in the game, such as the Secret Outpost quest, Kid Stuff trait, and New Game+, which all give you a new larger ship for free.

The second method is a wilder one, but you can steal the ship of pretty much everyone you come across in the game, so long as you don’t mind risking a bounty put on your head. To do this, you need to disable the ship first, board it, and then take control. The Targeting Control System skill can help with this since you can target the engine directly.

The final option is to build a custom large ship from scratch. This is a late-game activity, though, that usually needs high-tier skills like Starship Design. Also, many larger ships in this game are B and C-class ships, so you’ll want to max out the Piloting skill as well to even use them.

Starfield is available for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
