Warzone and MW3 Black Screen Bug Explained

First and foremost, here is what you should know about the MW3 Black Screen bug. The black screen error first pops up whenever a player boots up the game for the first time. We noticed players having issues with this bug around the launch of Season 3, but any major update can cause this problem to occur. Instead of loading the game normally, a black screen will appear, and nothing else will happen.

Worse still, players note that restarting the game and their platform doesn’t help with this issue in the slightest. It just keeps popping up and preventing them from playing. It gets even worse, though, as it happens on every single platform, from Xbox to PlayStation to PC. As such, pinning down the reason behind this issue is a bit more challenging than your normal glitch.

How to Fix the MW3 Black Screen Error

Since the Warzone and MW3 black screen error prevents the player from doing anything, even playing the campaign, it is one that players want to fix as soon as possible. However, at the time of writing, there is no official solution for how to fix the MW3 black screen error. That said, here are some of the possible tips we have for you that can help with this problem:

  • Restart the game and your console or computer (unlikely to help)
  • Check files for integrity (PC-only)
  • Play offline: Fully turn off the internet on your platform and try to play offline, which is understandably not the most fun
  • Delete the game and reinstall it (your best bet to solving the issue)

We believe that major updates, like the Season 3 release, are the likely cause behind this. This is why playing offline can be a potential solution for some, but that obviously isn’t enjoyable in an online-centric game like this. As such, we are going to have to wait for a permanent fix from Sledgehammer Games and Activision. I recommend submitting a bug report to Activision here to expedite an emergency patch to fix this problem for all users.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone are available now for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
