Players may notice that soon after launching Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, they’ll encounter a bizarre issue during which they might pick the Japanese voiceovers in Yakuza 8, but hear English while playing occasionally. This particular English language bug in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth has some bizarre circumstances surrounding it.

What’s going on with the Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth English language bug?

The English language bug pops up whenever players start Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and pick the Japanese voiceover language for Yakuza 8. Despite picking Japanese, the player hears NPCs and even main characters occasionally speaking English. This may seem like a bug, since it isn’t the right language players pick.

For instance, NPCs might greet the player with a “hello” when they walk by or bump into them. In addition, there are even some cutscenes where characters speak English right in the middle of Japanese lines. Oddly enough, some of this is actually intentional in my experience, while other parts are bug-related. Here’s what to do.

Is there a way to fix this problem?

In my experience playing the game before release, there were some early bugs I experienced in the opening parts of the game when Ichiban Kasuga spoke in English when encountering random people on the streets, but not in cutscenes, even in the early parts in Yokohama. This seems to be an actual error and one that will presumably receive a fix soon, if not already. I even noticed once I got further into Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth that this English language bug stopped happening.

However, if you hear NPCs speaking English, this is actually intentional most of the time. In fact, there may be nothing wrong with your game at all. While the player is exploring Hawaii, the vast majority of random people on the streets speak English, and there are even characters in cutscenes that often speak in English no matter what voice language you pick at the beginning. One case that immediately comes to mind is Danny Trejo’s Dwight. This villain character often switches between the English and Japanese voice actors. This appears to be a design choice, given the game’s setting this time around.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is available right now for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
