Act 2 in Baldur’s Gate 3 will inevitably take you to the Moonrise Tower, which is one of the key locations in the main storyline. But to get there, you have to pass through the shadow lands, which is full of a curse that will rip you apart from inside quite quick. As such, you’ll need to find a Moon Lantern in Baldur’s Gate 3 that will keep you alive.

Where to Find the Broken Moon Lantern in Baldur’s Gate 3

Like pretty much everything in Baldur’s Gate 3, there are multiple ways to go about finding a Moon Lantern. For many players, including myself, one way you might come across one is by going through the Underdark underneath the Goblin Camp.

This is one of the three paths to the Moonrise Tower, and this route will sweep you up in the battle between rebel goblins and their True Soul leader. You have to save the leader by finding some explosives and rescuing him. If you kill him or steal from him, you’ll be able to get the broken Moon Lantern.

The only problem is there is no way to get this broken lantern to work in the cursed lands. More than likely, you’ll need pixie dust or another item to get it to work. However, I have yet to find that item in the game. Instead, you want to go another route to find a complete Moon Lantern.

How to Find a Complete Moon Lantern

Pick whichever of the three routes you wish to take to the cursed lands. Whenever you reach here, use a torch, Light cantrip, or the Produce Flame spell to light your way through these shadows. Make your way to the safety of the Last Light Inn and speak with Jaheira.

After this, you’ll get a side quest to help with an ambush. Go to that location to the southwest and you’ll meet a group of enemies that have a complete Moon Lantern. You can either force them to give you their lantern or kill them and take it from them to obtain a complete Moon Lantern in Baldur’s Gate 3.

I recommend setting the pixie free from the lantern, too, as she will be grateful and give you a bell item you can ring anytime to get a permanent blessing that protects you like the Moon Lantern does.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is available for PC and will release for the PS5 on September 6, 2023.
