With the release of Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail patch 7.05, Square Enix, unfortunately, unleashed one of the most frustrating bugs possible. The FFXIV error code 2021 now pops up for some players whenever they are stuck in Data Center travel in the MMO, but there is a fix.
Data Center Travel Stuck Error Explained
First and foremost, it is important to understand this issue and why it happens. Basically since the launch of the new expansion, there is a huge influx of players. This is why there are updates recently to the congested worlds and the like. This is there to prevent players from visiting certain highly popular worlds and Data Centers.
But you are still able to visit certain places. If you happen to transfer right now to another Data Center, there is a high chance you will encounter error 2021. Players will be stuck in the queue for transferring and be unable to play. In fact, you can’t do anything at all. Eventually the error will happen but restarting the game will just put you back into the queue for transferring and eventually the error once more.
How to Fix the FFXIV 2021 Stuck in Data Center Travel Error
I know how frustrating the FFXIV 2021 stuck in Data Center travel error can be because it just happened to me. You are seemingly infinitely stuck in the queue until an error happens. No matter what you do, it just puts you back in the queue. Yes, this even means you aren’t able to play other characters if you’d like. You basically can’t play the game at all.
Fortunately, there is a fix. I do still recommend reaching out to Square Enix support. However, what is interesting is the game is still trying to transfer you even when it is closed. As such, you will eventually make your way to your destination. At that point, you will be able to play again. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you how long it will take; just depends on how many players are playing. For me, it took about 40 minutes at a non-peak time. Others, however, have generally stated around an hour and a half to even three hours for it to go through.
Once you finally make it to your destination, I highly recommend staying there. Even if it is not your home world, it is best to remain in place until a permanent fix arrives.
