Routes is the latest feature to come to Pokémon Go, which allows you and other Trainers to record and share your favorite walking spots when playing the mobile game. This is especially useful when it comes to getting the most out of Spotlight Hours and Community Days. Here’s how to find a Route that another player has created.
How do I find a Route in Pokémon Go?
To find a Route that another Pokémon Go player has recorded, select the orange binoculars icon in the bottom left of the overworld screen. This will bring up the ‘Nearby’ menu. Click on the ‘Routes’ tab, which is the last option to the right.
Here, select “See Nearby Routes,” and a list of local Routes that you can follow will appear. These will be sorted into the following four categories:
- Known: Routes that you’ve followed before.
- Official: Routes created by Niantic and/or The Pokémon Company International.
- New: New Routes created in your area.
- Popular: Routes that other local Trainers often follow.
Each Route will display the walking distance in both time and length and a description. Once you’ve found one that you’d like to walk, tap it and choose “Follow” to start the Route. If you’d rather walk it in reverse, select “Reverse Direction” if the creator has allowed it for that Route.
Once you’ve started the Route, follow the directions on the Pokémon GO overworld map until you reach the set end point. As you walk, you can still play and catch Pokémon as normal, so don’t forget to bring a lot of PokéBalls!
Upon reaching the end point, you’ll get that Route’s Route Badge and earn rewards such as Potions, EXP, and various types of PokéBalls. You can also rate the Route, choosing between one and five stars depending on how the walk was.
Pokémon GO is available to play now on iOS and Android devices. If you’d like to create your own Route in Pokémon GO, check out our guide.
