How to evolve Porygon into Porygon2 in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

To evolve Porygon2 in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, you must trade a Porygon holding the Upgrade evolution item with another player. While this is the same evolution method introduced back in Johto, the steps to obtain Porygon2 are slightly different in the Pokemon Indigo Disk DLC.

Below are the steps to evolve Porygon2 in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet:

  • Enter the Blueberry Academy Terarium and catch a Porygon in the Polar Biome.
  • Fast travel to the Blueberry Academy Entrance warp point and click the “School Store” level selection.
  • Purchase the Upgrade evolution item for 250 BP. You can also get Upgrade for free as a reward for catching 100 Pokemon in the Blueberry Pokedex.
  • Press the X button on your controller and select the Poke Portal menu. Next, click the L button to connect to the internet.
  • Select “Link Trade” and enter the code “0137-0137” in the Set Link Code window.
  • Connect with another player, and trade your Porygon holding the Upgrade item. Make sure the other player is also trading a Porygon holding Upgrade. If not, back out and try again with the same trade link code.
  • Once another player trades you Porygon holding Upgrade, it will automatically trigger the Porygon2 evolution in your game.

How to evolve Porygon-Z in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Just like the Porygon evolution method, Porygon2 evolves into Porygon-Z in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet after it is traded to another player while holding the Dubious Disc evolution item. The Dubious Disc item can either be obtained as a reward for catching 110 Pokemon in the Blueberry Pokedex, or purchased at the School Store for 250 BP.

Once you have a Porygon2 holding the Dubious Disc Held Item, connect to the Pokeportal Link Trade feature and use the “0233-0233” Set Link Code to trade with another player. If the other player doesn’t have a Porygon2 back out of the trade and try the code repeatedly until you find someone. It took me about five minutes in my playthrough.

Where to find Porygon in Pokemon Indigo Disk

In the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Indigo Disk DLC, Porygon can be found inside caves located in the Polar Biome. After entering the Blueberry Academy’s terarium, head northwest on the map until you hit the snow. Once here, use Koraidon or Miraidon to climb the snowy mountains so you can look inside the region’s various caves.

You can find Porygon’s exact location in the map image below:
