How to Earn More Gallons in SteamWorld Heist 2

Gallons are your main currency in SteamWorld Heist 2, as they are used for equipment and upgrades for your submarine. It’s a limited resource and you’re likely to find yourself with less than you need. However, there are some ways to farm some extra gallons to ensure you can stay on top of your equipment needs.

Purchase the Water Purifier Sub Upgrade

The Water Purifier is one of the most important methods of earning more gallons in SteamWorld Heist 2. This upgrade is available shortly after you unlock the machine guns, costing 5 Fragments, and from that point, every time you earn Gallons, you gain an extra 10%.

This bonus is applied to all drops. Whether you’re earning Gallons through missions, finding them on the World Map or gaining them as End of Day rewards, you will always get the extra amount.

Roam the World Map in Search of Gallons in SteamWorld Heist 2

While it is easy to rush to the next mission, it’s worth exploring the World Map in your submarine. You can find debris in random spots, which usually provide you with Gallons. These debris patches will also reset every day, so it’s worth re-exploring the map regularly to find these new spawns.

As you unlock new upgrades to the submarine, it’s also worth exploring to find areas you couldn’t previously reach. For instance, Backwater Bay contains a passage with a high current. As soon as you unlock the Booster, you’ll be able to access this area for a huge surplus of Gallons.

Royal Navy ships are also an excellent source of Gallons. There are plenty of them patrolling around, and are relatively easy to defeat, even with basic equipment. They don’t all drop Gallons, but the drop rate is high enough that it’s worth hunting them down.

Farm Gallons from Previous Missions in SteamWorld Heist 2

If you’re looking to earn extra Gallons because you’re struggling with later missions of Steamworld Heist 2, the simplest answer is to repeat previous missions. This is because all Swag and Bounty Points you previously earned can be earned again. The only exception to this is Epic Swag, which cannot be collected a second time.

With your improved equipment and levels, these earlier missions will also be easier. So if you’d previously completed a mission with a scrapped team member or you missed the Epic Swag, a repeat play will make it easier to keep them alive and find the missing items. This means you can earn a higher star rating, which gives additional bonuses.

In addition, as your team grows in size, you’ll be able to do more missions in a single day. This will allow you to complete multiple missions as you’ll have team members to spare, resulting in a higher Bounty Point score at the end of the day. This means when you visit a Bar to rest, you can cash in higher rewards for Gallons.

Sell Old Items

The ability to sell items in SteamWorld Heist 2 is easy to overlook, as unlike other games, you don’t do it through a shopkeeper or bartender. Instead, you can sell items directly from your inventory, with a button prompt shown at the bottom of the screen.

As you unlock better equipment, this will make it easier to earn Gallons quickly, as you can just sell off all the old stuff you don’t need anymore. Sadly, everything does sell for a much lower price than you’ll buy it for, but this can be useful for items collected during missions.

SteamWorld Heist 2 is out now for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Switch.
