Due to the weirdness of the Exclusion Zone in Pacific Drive, your car will develop quirks that you need to diagnose at the Tinker Station. However, the process of fixing quirks may seem a little strange at first.

How do I use the Tinker Station to Diagnose Quirks in Pacific Drive?

The Tinker Station is a machine found in the Auto Shop in Pacific Drive, designed to help you diagnose and fix any quirks you develop out in the Zone. You can find it right next to the battery charger.

The interface for the Tinker Station is based on an old 8-bit computer or BIOS. It features four lists, two of which are lists of car components and the other two are lists of their possible behavior. By selecting the right options, you can diagnose quirks within your car which will allow the Tinker Station to suggest solutions.

To diagnose a quirk, you must identify a problem with your car. The first two columns describe the action you perform while the second two describe the unexpected effect. For instance, the horn might honk every time you close the trunk. So you would select “Trunk” and “Closes” in the first two columns, then “Horn” and “Honks” in the second two. These quirks are always randomly applied so you’ll need to inspect your vehicle to try and spot anything weird.

Once you’ve identified the problem, you can move to the second page where solutions will be provided. This will let you know which repair kit you will need to fix the problem. Usually this is a Mechanic’s Kit, an Electrician’s Kit or a Light Replacement Kit. Occasionally there may be a combination of a couple of these. Once you have the appropriate repair kit in your inventory, simply select the identified quirk and select yes to fix the issue.

Guesses for the quirks are limited and will expire with each incorrect guess. These guesses will only reset when returning to the Auto Shop from the Zone.

How do I upgrade the Tinker Station?

Early on, trying to diagnose some less obvious quirks can be difficult. You may not immediately notice that your lights dim when you turn off the radio or that something weird is happening with the dashboard when you close a door. This is where upgrades to the Tinker Station come in handy.

There are two upgrades available from the Fabrication Station. These are the Investigator Module and Analysis Module, both found in the Garage section after unlocking the Matter Regenerator.

The Investigator Module requires the following materials:

  • 1 kLIM Stable Energy
  • 1 Circuit Board
  • 4 Copper Wire
  • 10 Scrap Metal
  • 2 Glass Shards

The Analysis Module requires the following materials:

  • 1 kLIM Unstable Energy
  • 10 Plasma
  • 1 Circuit Board
  • 8 Copper Wire
  • 10 Scrap Metal

With these, the Tinker Station will narrow down where the quirks can be found, such as identifying which parts have a quirk, although you’ll still need to figure out the rest of the information yourself.

Pacific Drive is out now on PS5 and PC.
