One of the most unique parts about Baldur’s Gate III was the ability to play this game years ahead of its official launch on August 3, 2023. The massive RPG let players experience the first Act of the game early, but this comes with some caveats upon its full release. Due to some possible issues, players are now being told by Larian Studios to delete their Baldur’s Gate III early access save files.

If you want to ensure you have the best possible experience with the full game, it is imperative you delete your Baldur’s Gate III early access saves now. To do this, start by booting up the game, preferably before it fully releases. But you should be good after, even if you update to the full game before doing so.

Once in the game, click on the “load game” option in the main menu. From there, you want to go through every single save and auto save on your game and manually delete them yourself. Depending on how long and often you played this game, you could have a lot of campaigns and saves.

While it is sad to delete all of these, it is likely that loading them in the full release version could break your game due to the differences. After all, there are full on quests, storylines, and even companions that weren’t available in that early access version.

It doesn’t stop with deleting your saves manually, though. In addition to that, you should open up the folder where the game is located on your drive. By default, you should find it somewhere like:

  • appdata/local/LarianStudios/Baldur’s Gate 3

There, you need to find the “Player Profiles” folder and delete all of the content there, but not the folder itself. Once done there, your game should be clean and ready to go. Note that simply uninstalling the early access version won’t take care of any of this.

Baldur’s Gate III is available for the PC and will release for the PS5 on September 6, 2023.
