How to Defeat Infernal Shadow Ifrit in FFXIV

Unlike past crossover events like NieR and Monster Hunter, the Infernal Shadow Ifrit fight is simply an instanced battle. The player takes on this FFXVI-inspired form of Ifrit alongside Clive. It is a lengthy level 50 fight with a maximum item level of 110. The fight uses basic AOE attacks for players to avoid, except for a new mechanic with precision dodging.

Players can use the exclusive dodge button in this fight. Controller users can access it by holding down the right trigger and pressing down on the right thumbstick (R3). You will see a circle on your screen that will count down from two, and you get about one second to press the button to dodge the AOE. Press the button again right after to do a counterattack that will deal tons of damage. This is the basic rinse-and-repeat cycle to win this fight with ease.

While the dodge is there to make the FFXVI-style Infernal Ifrit fight pretty easy in the FFXIV event, there are some other tips you should keep in mind. For one, I recommend a DPS-centric class rather than a tank or healer. You don’t need to heal Clive, and he also takes care of tanking, so dealing with damage should be your focus. In addition, partway through the fight, there will be a DPS check against some infernal swords.

Ignore these infernal swords for a moment until Clive destroys most of them, then finish off the remaining ones. Finally, if you lose this fight or struggle with it at all, there are easy and very easy difficulty options that make it much quicker to get through. You’ll unlock the event’s exclusive rewards soon after winning this fight, such as Clive’s signature armor set.

Final Fantasy XIV is available now for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
