“Sour but Sweet” is one of those Fae Farm story quests that involves diving down 25 levels into a dungeon to reach the sprite that needs assistance. While the most difficult part of the quest is getting down there, given you need the Fairbreath potion to breathe in the dungeon due to the miasma, it can still be a bit challenging to get everything on Boletal’s “to do” list. Like “A Watery Wonder,” getting every item takes some effort.

How do you get the items needed for the Fae Farm “Sour but Sweet” quest?

So there are five items you need, and most of them aren’t too much trouble. Many of them you might have already gotten along the way. Especially if you were doing some gathering in the Fae realm.

Here’s the full list of what you need for “Sour but Sweet” in Fae Farm and where to find it.

  • 3 Fae Dust: Catch Sun Sprites or Myst Fairies in the Fae realm, then leave them at the Fae Critter Conservatory. You get one Fae Dust for each one of them.
  • 5 Polished Emerald: Mine Rough Emeralds from Floating Ruins, then put them in the Gem Polisher to get the polished versions. You need 10 of a rough version of a gem to make the polished one.
  • 5 Spore Essences: Use the Sickle to cut the grassy patches in the Floating Ruins dungeon to get Sporeweed, then leave it at the Potion Ingredients Station to turn it into Spore Essence. Note you need four Sporeweeds to make one Spore Essence.
  • 10 Violet Jellycaps: Grab these mushrooms that grow in the wild in the Fae Realm.
  • 15 Clover Feed: Use the Sickle to cut clover patches in the Fae realm.

Once you drop off all the items with Boletal, they’ll say to come back the next day to perform the spell to reduce the miasma. Once the next day begins, you’ll see a story sequence to close out chapter five of the game and get a new magic spell for your staff called Faerie Fire. It can be used at gaps with crystals on either side to make a bridge. Which, from what I’ve seen, is only one. The bridge in the Fae realm that leads to your Fae Acres farm.

Fae Farm is available for the Nintendo Switch and PC.
