The Winter Temple is an important area in Moonstone Island, as it’s the final of the four seasonal temples where you can obtain the Electric Seal to close the Dark Rift. As with the other temples, clearing the Winter-themed level requires you to offer up a specific set of items to altars before facing off against a tough boss.
Where is the Winter Temple in Moonstone Island?
Despite the islands being procedurally generated, the temples are all found in fixed locations in the sky. The Winter Temple can be tough to find, though, because it’s quite far from Moonstone Island and isn’t found in a single direction.
Imagine the map is a grid, with Moonstone Island occupying a square of four in the middle and each of the other grid squares containing a random island. If you start from the cliffs to the north-east of the island, head north-east diagonally across two of the island squares. At the third square you reach, head directly north and the Winter Temple is in the square above. If these squares all have islands in them, it should be easier to find.
The Glider will be essential for this trip, and ideally you need to do a few of the Memory Shard dungeons before heading out. You’ll need the stamina increases with this distance.
Where Do You Find the Winter Temple Items in Moonstone Island?
The entrance altar asks for a Bulbshroom and a Popcorn Plant. These are Winter plants found on Electric islands. Bulbshrooms are small and look like a cluster of multi-color diodes. Popcorn Plants look like a stalk with white flowers. I was lucky enough to find both right outside the door to the temple, so check the island first before heading elsewhere.
The first altar inside the temple requires a Beacon and a Cinderfish. Beacons can be crafted at the Moonstone Enchanter, but you’ll need to have tamed an Armbot for Zed before you’ll be able to do so. Cinderfish can be caught on Fire islands with any rod. Due to these islands generally featuring higher level Spirits, you’ll need to have a strong team that causes the locals to leave you alone while you fish.
The final altar inside the temple requires Sparks and a Moonstone. Sparks are a Spirit Resource obtained from the Spirit Barn. Keep any Electric Spirits fed and happy in there, and they will occasionally drop this item. Moonstones are obtained across the various islands and can sometimes be found in chests in dungeons or mines.
How Do You Defeat the Winter Temple Boss in Moonstone Island?
The Winter Temple boss is a Level 40 Sparkling, flanked by a Sparky on each side. This fight punishes hesitation due to the passive abilities of your opponents. As you’re picking your cards, they will be hit by random lightning strikes that add 1 to that card’s Energy cost. These will be constantly going off so the longer you take deciding on your move, the harder it’ll get to do anything at all. Similarly, Sparkling will apply the Exhaust condition to one of your cards each turn, meaning you can only use it once during the battle.
For this fight, make sure you have a strong Level 40 team. Recommended types are Psychic, Earth and Ice types, as they all give you a slight edge in this fight. The enemies are weak to Earth and Ice attacks, so their attacks will hit harder, hopefully allowing you to clear them out before your deck becomes too unmanageable. Psychic types, on the other hand, can be a huge help due to their abilities. With your card’s Energy costs constantly increasing, having abilities that can give you extra Energy will help counter this problem.
As with all Electric Spirits, all enemies in this fight are weak to Dark, so if you can bring a Dark Spirit, they may also be able to help. However, because the Spirits found on Dark islands are much higher level than you’re likely to be while tackling this, it’s not the most ideal solution.
