Your first priority in any new area of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth should be taming the regional Chocobo. Here are a few tips on wrangling the black Chocobo, Belle, in the FF7 Rebirth Junon Region level map.
Every new location in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth requires a new Chocobo partner as your mount. These chocobo partners don’t just offer cosmetic differences; each one brings forth unique abilities tailored to the specific challenges of its region.
For example, Belle can climb vertical surfaces, a skill invaluable for navigating Junon’s rugged landscape. To tame Belle, you have to do a stealth mini-game of sorts to get to her, and it can be a little confusing to make the exact right moves.
How to Get Junon Chocobo Mount in FF7 Rebirth
In the Junon region’s “stuck in a rut” sidequest, Belle’s whereabouts will be marked on your map. Upon arrival, you’ll engage in a sneaking sequence, but it’s not a straightforward affair like hiding in tall grass. You’ll need to make some specific moves in order to get to Belle without being spotted by her or any of her fellow chocobos.
To kick things off, hit the first switch to set the little train car in motion ahead of you. Keep a steady pace, sticking close behind the car until you reach the next open area. Here, you’ll encounter another switch, but this time, you’re not as close to the car. Not to worry, though – there are rocks scattered nearby. Use one to hit the switch from a distance after you’ve set up behind the next car. Then, simply tail this new train car until you reach the next patch of tall grass.
Now, there’s one last car up ahead. Grab another rock and toss it at the switch a few feet in front of it. The car will start moving to the right, so stick close behind it. But here’s the twist: this time, the car will loop around the area, and chocobos positioned in various spots will have different lines of sight on you. To stay hidden, you’ll need to move around the car as it circles and make sure you’re breaking line of sight with any potential chocobo spotters. Keep that camera on a swivel to know where to move next.
After skillfully skirting around the entire area concealed behind the car, you’ll finally reach a point where you can sneak up behind Belle and tame her. If you slip up, don’t sweat it – the game graciously sets a checkpoint just before the last car, giving you another shot. Once Belle is on your team, she’s yours to call on whenever you’re in Junon.
