Beating Mohg, Lord of Blood in Elden Ring, requires meticulous preparation and a keen understanding of his attack patterns. Here’s a detailed guide to help you overcome Mohg, Lord of Blood in Elden Ring, and his devastating ritual magic.
First, you should aim to be around level 130+ for this fight. Equip a weapon that deals high physical damage if you’re a melee user. Mohg is actually pretty susceptible to frostbite and, ironically, blood loss too. Your armor should provide good protection and also a high resistance to blood loss, which is crucial given the nature of Mohg’s attacks.
One insanely helpful item for this fight is Mohg’s Shackle. You can find it in the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds under Leyndell. This item can temporarily stun Mohg twice during the first phase of the fight. This means several precious seconds to deal significant damage. It’s important to use the Shackle before Mohg reaches the health threshold that triggers his second phase. After this point, it’s useless.
Another important pickup before the battle is the Purifying Crystal Tear. This can be acquired by defeating the NPC invader Eleonora, Violet Bloody Finger at the the Second Church of Marika. Mixing this tear into your Flask of Wondrous Physick will protect you from the massive blood loss attack that Mohg uses during his phase transition.
Elden Ring Mohg Boss Fight
During Phase 1, Mohg’s attacks are a combination of melee strikes and blood magic. Your strategy should involve staying close to him to avoid his ranged blood magic attacks. Use Mohg’s Shackle early in this phase to stun him and create an opportunity for you and your summons to inflict heavy damage. Pay close attention to his attack patterns, as his moves often have delayed timings. Dodge his attacks at the right moment and capitalize on the brief recovery periods after his big swings or blood magic attacks to land your own hits.
When Mohg’s health drops to around 50%, he will begin a ritual to transition to Phase 2. This ritual not only causes massive blood loss but heals Mohg as well. Drink your Flask of Wondrous Physick with the Purifying Crystal Tear just before he starts this chant to nullify the blood loss effect. If you don’t have the tear, you’ll have to immediately heal through the damage and hope you have enough health. During his chanting, take the opportunity to land a few hits to offset his own healing. However, be cautious not to get too greedy, as his attacks will follow soon after.
Mohg Boss Fight Phase 2
In Phase 2, Mohg becomes more aggressive, and his attacks are enhanced by bloodflame. It is crucial to stay close to him to avoid the widespread damage of his bloodflame attacks. Keep dodging his moves, especially his airborne assaults, and heal immediately if your blood loss meter is nearly full. Summoning allies can be very helpful in this phase as they can distract Mohg, giving you more chances to attack safely.
Pay close attention to his key attacks. During his Bloodboon attack, stay mobile to dodge the splash and avoid standing on the ignited ground. For his spear swings and thrusts, rolling toward him can help you evade his horizontal swipes, while rolling past him can help you avoid his thrusts. His airborne assaults, including the bloodflame throws and charging attacks, can be dodged by rolling sideways.
Using heavy weapons to break Mohg’s stance can open him up to critical hits, which is particularly effective in this fight. Consider using weapons that inflict both cold and blood loss to maximize your damage output. Summoning Spirit Ashes like the Mimic Tear or Black Knife Tiche can provide additional damage and help manage Mohg’s aggression.
