How to Unlock The Case of a Missing Bangboo in Zenless Zone Zero

The Case of a Missing Bangboo is unlocked with the 1.1 update of Zenless Zone Zero. It’s an Agent Story, similar to those based on characters found in the original release. If you’ve played through most of the main story already, unlocking this will likely be a simple case of updating the game.

If not, you will first need to beat the main story mission “Mission Unthinkable” as part of the Chapter 2 Interlude. This mission introduces Zhu Yuan and Qingyi to the story. Once you’ve cleared it, the new Agent Story is freely available from the Video Archive in the back room of Random Play. This mission is not timed and will remain available even after the next update.

Unlike some other Agent Stories in Zenless Zone Zero, The Case of a Missing Bangboo is mostly focused on story sequences. However, the third part of the story does go into a Hollow, so you’ll need a suitable team. The recommended types you’ll need for this mission are Electric, Fire and Physical, so ideally you want Agents that cover all three elements. In addition, most of the fights involve large numbers of weaker enemies, so you’ll want Agents with good crowd control.

If you’re using the Trial Mode, the first character slot will be filled with Qingyi, who is already a suitable Electric user who is already altered for the required level. In addition, her attacks are great for crowds, so she’s worth keeping around as the default Agent.

If you’re looking for party bonuses by combining two Agents of the same faction, that also cover both Physical and Fire, the only option is Lucy and Piper, as they’re both from the Sons of Calydon faction. Fortunately, both of these Agents are also great in a crowd, with Piper’s fully charged Special Attack being especially useful. The Cunning Hares have two Physical Agents (Nekomata, Billy) and Belobog have two Fire Agents (Ben, Koleda) so if you’re willing to forego one element, these are good alternatives. I’d personally recommend the Cunning Hares out of these two, although Ben is a good defensive option in crowds.

If party bonuses aren’t as important to you, my personal choice was Nekomata and Soldier 11. Nekomata is especially useful in a crowd as many of her attacks, including her Dodge Counter, Chain Attack and Ultimate operate in a wide AoE. Billy is also a strong backup choice here. Soldier 11 is a strong Fire choice due to her hard-hitting attacks and wide spread for her Special Attack, even if she gains no faction bonus at present.

Other Tips for The Case of a Missing Bangboo

The Case of a Missing Bangboo is mostly a straightforward Hollow exploration like any other in Zenless Zone Zero. However, there is one puzzle along the way that may cause some trouble.

The first of these is a sequence where you have to investigate a Sharkboo being used as a switch before entering a code using some levers. These levers increase a digit in the screen above it each time they’re pulled. Simply press up into the corresponding switches to make the numbers read 11 and 38 on the left and right.

Zenless Zone Zero is out now for PC, PS5 and mobile devices.
