It’s no secret the Nintendo Switch is Nintendo’s greatest success in years. The 2017 hybrid console is a massive worldwide phenomenon, begging the question: how many Nintendo Switch consoles have been sold?
Total Nintendo Switch Sales Figures
Approximately 132.46 million Nintendo Switch consoles have been sold so far. It reached an impressive milestone of 125 million units in early May 2023. Despite coming up on seven years in circulation, this shows the console still has quite a bit of life left in it. (Thanks, Statista!)
It has passed past Nintendo consoles, such as the NES, SNES, and even all Game Boy and Color variants combined. Perhaps the most surprising result is that the Switch has even surpassed the Nintendo Wii, one of the most popular consoles ever. The Switch currently sits as the most successful Nintendo home console.
Will the Switch Beat the PS2 and Nintendo DS?
Even with the impressive Nintendo Switch sales figures at this point, the console still sits in the third-place spot of all video game systems. It trails just behind the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo DS, which still hold the first and second places, respectively. It is possible the Switch could still outsell one or both of these platforms.
The DS has about 154 million units sold, while the PS2 has around 155 million consoles. The Switch still has more than 23 million console sales to beat either of these platforms, but it could happen depending on what Nintendo does in the future. If a Nintendo successor comes quite soon, the chances of it reaching either of those seem unlikely. But if a Nintendo successor is still several years away, it could reach that number-one spot.
