Downloading God of War Ragnarok Valhalla DLC

To download the DLC, you’ll need to have either a physical or digital copy of God of War Ragnarok, and then download the DLC for free from the PlayStation Store. You don’t need to load the game up in order to begin the download, nor do you need to have completed the main game’s story before you’re given the option to download it.

Do You Need to Have Finished God of War Ragnarok’s Main Story to Start the DLC?

Technically, no. You’ll be able to begin playing the DLC as soon as its downloaded from the main menu. According to the PlayStation Blog post on the topic, “Valhalla is a separate experience from God of War Ragnarok, so you don’t need to worry about going in without certain upgrades, equipment, or story progress.”

That being said, if you haven’t finished the main questline yet and don’t want the storyline to be spoiled, Sony does advise that you finish the main game first before diving into Valhalla, as it “serves as an epilogue to the story of the base game.”
