How to unlock Private Action Events in Star Ocean The Second Story R

Star Ocean The Second Story R Private Action Events are essentially optional character interactions and cutscenes. They usually center around multiple characters interacting with one another and deepen their bonds with each other. You may even get to learn more about the characters in these moments as well. There are some newer events in this remake, and others were slightly changed or even switched into mandatory, regular story scenes.

Unfortunately, Private Action Events are pretty finicky in that they often must be triggered at the right times. As a result, many of them can be permanently missed. The best way to know if you have a Private Action Event is to switch to PA mode. You can do this by pressing the Y button on Switch or the Square button on PlayStation. Next, open up the fast travel map using up on the D-Pad.

You can then check out every location and town you’ve been to and see if there is a PA event available. Better yet, the game tells you if that event is limited-time or not. You can then instantly fast travel to the location and trigger the event.

What do Private Action Events do for your character?

You’ll want to trigger these Private Action Events whenever possible. The little character development parts are nice and can even unlock new endings, but there is more to the feature. Some events let you pick conversation options, which can raise or lower your affection and relationship status with a character.

More importantly, certain Private Action Events are required to unlock other events later in the story. If you want to complete the game fully, you won’t want to miss these!

Star Ocean The Second Story R is available for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC.
