Home Free will put you in the body of a street dog, alone in a procedurally generated city, looking for food, shelter, and play mates. What happens to this dog depends on what you decide to with it.
Mostly, you’ll be looking to keep the dog alive. You could beg humans for food by being cute. Or you could forage for garbage to eat. Another option is being a bit naughty and stealing the fresh food that humans carry around, and then running away from any pursuers.
While Home Free may look lo-fi in some respects what stands out the most is the animation that brings the dogs you control and play with to life. They wrestle, fidget, and pounce to resemble many of the behaviors you’d expect of a real-life dog.
This is brought to life even further in the local multiplayer game Dog Park that’ll come with Home Free. In it, you can play with three other friends, each a different breed of dog if you wish, prancing around and playing like dogs do.
Home Free is currently on Kickstarter looking to raise $50,000 so that solo developer Kevin Cancienne can hire extra help to give the game that extra bit of work before it comes out for PC in late 2016.
