Higurashi When They Cry is going to receive another animated adaption, and it will release in July 2020. Alongside this update, the first PV for this new Higurashi adaptation has been uploaded to YouTube. [Thanks, Famitsu!]
The new PV also lists the voice actors for the anime, along with the director and series composer. Additionally, the official Higurashi When They Cry website has been updated to include the PV. If you’re interested in checking it out, you can do so by watching the video below.
Earlier this year, this new project was teased. Little information was shared, outside of a new visual for Rena being posted. However, staff for the animation was posted alongside this visual. As it stands the anime will be produced by Infinite (Shirobako, Tari Tari and Hataraku Maoh-sama!), with the main animation studio being Passione. Akio Watanabe joined the staff as the character designer.
Higurashi When They Cry is a murder mystery visual novel and has received several anime adaptations since its release. The story takes in the fictional village of Hinamizawa. Keiichi Maebara, the main character, has recently moved to the village and begins to uncover the dark history of this seemingly quite and picturesque place. The game offers several story arcs.
The most recent game release of Higurashi When They Cry was Higurashi When They Cry Hou on the Nintendo Switch. The game is available in Japan.
