I’m a huge fan of any kind of job or class system in a JRPG. Let’s dive into Vision of Mana and look at how the game’s class system works.
The class system in Visions of Mana is deeply tied to the game’s eight elemental essences. Each essence corresponds to a specific element, and when equipped, it transforms a character into a new class. This means that every character has a total of nine classes to choose from, including their base non-elemental class.
These classes don’t just alter a character’s stats—they also change the weapon the character uses. Each character has three main weapons that vary depending on their equipped class. No two characters share the same classes or weapons.
This system ensures that each character feels unique and offers distinct gameplay options.
Managing the class system in Visions of Mana
Upgrading these classes is handled through the Elemental Plot, a progression system where players can spend Elemental Points to unlock various upgrades. These upgrades include both passive skills and active abilities or attacks. Passive skills are only active when a character is in the corresponding class. However, unlocked abilities and moves often carry over to other classes. However, some moves are tied to specific weapons, meaning they can only be used by classes that wield those weapons.
In addition to these class-specific abilities, each class also comes with a unique attack that corresponds to its elemental vessel. For instance, all classes tied to the Moon element have an ability that can slow down enemies, providing a tactical advantage in battle.
Choosing and maintaining the right class for each character is crucial to maximizing your effectiveness in the game. With each character offering a diverse set of classes, weapons, and abilities, the Visions of Mana class system encourages players to experiment and find the best combinations to suit their playstyle.
Visions of Mana will come to the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on August 29, 2024. A demo is available.
