Lotte and Sanrio are teaming up to release a Hello Kitty flavor of Koala’s March. This is to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Koala’s March, as well as the 50th anniversary of Hello Kitty.
The new flavor of Koala’s March is actually apple pie flavor. It uses fermented butter (to be more precise, ingredients that are used in fermented butter) in the biscuit dough, and the chocolate inside tastes like apple pie. There will be ten variations of collaboration patterns on the koalas, as well as the entire alphabet (26 variations). The Hello Kitty ribbon also appears on the package. You’ll be able to purchase it from stores that sell snacks all across Japan. It is also possible it could appear in Asian grocery stores in the US, as Koala’s March often appears in them.
The reason why the collaboration flavor uses apple pie as its flavor is likely because the fruit is quite important to Hello Kitty’s lore. She uses it to describe her height and weight, and she also really likes apples and her mom’s homemade apple pie. As for Koala’s March, Lotte first released these snacks in 1984. They’re bite-sized cookies with a sweet filling inside. Usually, this filling is chocolate, but you can also purchase Koala’s March filled with honey, vanilla, and strawberry cream.
The Hello Kitty Koala’s March is now available in stores across Japan.
