Gundam: Extreme Vs. Full Boost Is Another Cash Cow For Bandai Namco

Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. Full Boost sold 269,940 copies when it was released last week, and sales tracker Media Create says that it sold through 80.83% of its initial shipment.

Although launch sales of the game weren’t as good as those of its 2011 predecessor, Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. (350,000 copies), one can say that Full Boost has gotten off to a great start nonetheless.

This is because, unlike its predecessor, Full Boost wasn’t released in December, close to the year-end holiday season where games typically see increased sales. Additionally, the game enjoys the highest sell-through rate of any game in the series since the PS2 instalments. Very impressive indeed.

Retailers pitched in regarding why the game may have sold as well as it did, too. According to Media Create, retailers mentioned that a number of high school students that played the game’s arcade counterpart (which began operation in April 2012), bought the PlayStation 3 version.

This spring, Namco will release the next arcade instalment in the series, titled Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. Maxi Boost, and Media Create have high expectations for the series’ future.
