Guilty Gear Strive Nagoriyuki Imbues His Sword With Blood

Arc System Works has published a Guilty Gear Strive Starter Guide video that lets users learn about the brand new character Nagoriyuki. Described as a vampire samurai, he wields an Odachi longsword befitting his large body frame.

Since he is a vampire, Nagoriyuki can launch the Bloodsucking Universe command grab just like Slayer, another vampire who appeared in prior Guilty Gear games. When he successfully bites his opponent, he can recover a portion of his health based on the damage dealt. Although Nagoriyuki is designed to be a heavy-hitter, he can also move swiftly with the Fukyo technique.

Nagoriyuki has a unique Blood Gauge that fills up gradually most of the time. While most special moves will help fill the gauge faster, the Bloodsucking Universe grab will instead drain it. When the Blood Gauge is full, he will enter a Blood Rage state that literally imbues his sword with blood, effectively making his slash attacks stronger.

Although Blood Rage can end on its own after the gauge runs out, players may want to end it sooner by launching the state-exclusive Overdrive move, Zansetsu. This is because Nagoriyuki’s health will drain rapidly while Blood Rage is active. As he cannot launch other special moves in the state, players interested in maximizing damage from Blood Rage may try landing a few slashes before finishing it off with Zansetsu.

Nagoriyuki is not the only brand new character added to Guilty Gear Strive, as Arc System Works also created Giovanna—who will receive her own Starter Guide video tomorrow on February 15, 2021. In the last two days, the company published guide videos for Ramlethal Valentine and Leo Whitefang, who both debuted in the preceding Guilty Gear Xrd series.

Guilty Gear Strive will officially release for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC on April 9, 2021. An open beta test will be available to anyone who has a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 on February 17-21, 2021.
