God of War Creator David Jaffe To Found New Studio In San Diego

God of War creator and Twisted Metal designer, David Jaffe, will be leaving Eat Sleep Play, the studio he co-founded in 2007. The Salt Lake City-based studio recently completed work on the new Twisted Metal for PlayStation 3, and has laid off part of its workforce, as it prepares to move to mobile phone game development.

Jaffe worked on Twisted Metal primarily from his home office and misses working directly with a team on a day-to-day basis, which is part of the reason he’s leaving Eat Sleep Play.

“I have zero plans to make games like Farmville and Angry Birds,” Jaffe tweeted in response to rumours that he will be moving to casual games. “I never said what I was doing post TM (and I’m still on TM along with ESP for the next months as we launch it and balance it in real time and make sure it’s a perfect game and continue to support it).”

He elaborates: “At the same time I will be opening a game studio here in San Diego because I really miss internal game development.”

Jaffe is scheduled to step down from Eat Sleep Play in the next three months. With regard to his new studio, Jaffe says he hopes to work on both “big, huge next gen game ideas” as well as browser games.

Twisted Metal is slated for release next week on February 14th for the PlayStation 3.
