HoYoVerse uploaded a video detailing the history of Chinese inner painting. The video is entirely in Mandarin Chinese, but there are English subtitles. Wang Ziyong, who is an inner painting craftsman, painted landscape and Adepti from Genshin Impact. Even so, the majority of the video focuses on inner painting’s history and techniques.
In the video, we can see Wang Ziyong’s artistic rendition of Jueyun Karst, Mt. Hulao, and Mt. Aocang. Because inner painting is such a traditional Chinese art and the Liyue region in Genshin Impact has a very traditional Chinese aesthetic, they visually match. Wang Ziyong explains that he had to use oil painting techniques for the three landscapes, and that it was difficult to get the pigmentation just right.

Wang Ziyong has also shown off his finished projects featuring Chinese legends. For example, he had painted one of Chang’e and the Jade Rabbit. inner painting is an art in which you use a special brush to paint the inside of a bottle from the opening. A painter has to paint backwards due to the way the bottle is and the task demands a high level of concentration.
This is not the first time that HoYoVerse has used Genshin Impact to educate about Chinese history and culture. Previously, it released two videos on Chinese cuisine. The first one detailed how to make bamboo shoot soup (Zhongli’s specialty) and the second one gave a recipe for fried shrimp balls.
