HoYoVerse announced on both the Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail social media accounts that the US versions of the games will feature updated price notices for Primogem and Stellar Jade currency. It noted this move is designed to comply with tax collection regulations and will appear starting on June 3, 2024.

The messaging for the change is largely the same in both announcements. In each case, HoYoVerse noted the Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail top-up center and PC site will feature an updated currency price for Primogems and Stellar Jades. In each case it will show the base price with taxes and fees included. At the moment now, only the base price is shown for the items. So if someone were to buy 1,980 Genesis Crystals to put toward Primogems for Genshin Impact right now, the price would say $29.99. (Honkai: Star Rail likewise gives someone 1,980 Oneiric Shards to put toward Stellar Jades for $29.99.) After this change is implemented, the displayed price should be higher due to including associated taxes and fees.

People are already paying these taxes and fees for the currency in games like Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail. It’s just the pages to buy them don’t show the final price with those additional costs associated with the packs right now.

Here’s one of the full notices, to help offer the official explanation for the changes:

There’s no such notice yet on the Tears of Themis or Honkai Impact 3rd social media accounts. However, it is possible this change could apply to both of those HoYoVerse games as well.

Genshin Impact is available for the PS4, PS5, PC, and mobile devices. Honkai: Star Rail is available for the PS5, PC, and mobile devices.
